Sudheeran may soften stand on bar licence

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:  KPCC president V M Sudheeran may soften his stand on issuing licence to substandard bars. He has informed Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala that he is ready for more talks on the issue. He is known to have told both ministers over the phone that he is ready to take up the issue again in the Government-Congress high power committee meeting.

The discussion over the bar licence had reached a deadlock as Sudheeran had taken a stand against that taken by the chief minister and others. And, both were also firm on their opinions.

Sudheeran’s stand is that only standard bars with two-star certificate need to open while the chief minister and others are of the opinion licences can be issued to substandard bars after giving them specific time to raise their standards.

The failure of the party leadership and the government to solve the issue had also annoyed UDF leaders. Now, they are also not willing to prolong the stalemate.

It is under these circumstances that Sudheeran would be reportedly coming forward to ease the situation. According to sources, he may agree to allotting a time frame for bars’ up gradation, but with certain preconditions.
