Royal family to oppose amicus curiae report in SC

NEW DELHI: The erstwhile Travancore Royal family has gone back from their decision to partially approve the report of the amicus curiae in connection with the Padmanabhaswamy Temple. They will request the Supreme Court to dismiss the report. The decision was taken after holding talks with K K Venugopal, senior advocate of the Supreme Court.

The royal family had the other day decided not to oppose amicus curiae’s directive to conduct an auditing in the temple. In the affidavit to be filed tomorrow, the family will mention that the report was set unilaterally. They will also indicate that no details were collected from them.

In the meanwhile, Rajesh Nair, official of an international marketing agency, has filed a public interest litigation in the Supreme Court requesting to use the assets of the temple for public causes.

The plea states the assets should be used for educational and health purposes. Only half kilo gold should be used for the rituals of the temple. The assets should be converted into money and should be kept under the safe custody of banks and devaswom boards of the state should be brought under one roof. The plea filed with the permission of the Supreme Court Chief Justice will be considered tomorrow.
