Differences of opinion continue, decision on bar license deferred

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: As differences of opinion continued, a decision could not be taken at the KPCC-government coordination committee meet convened here Wednesday to discuss the renewal of bar license.  Differences of opinion cropped up between Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and KPCC chief V M Sudheeran on the issue.

The situation worsened over the renewal of 418 substandard bars. When the meet convened Wednesday morning, Sudheeran opined that license of standard bars need renewed. At least bars of two-star status should be given license, he said.

Chief Minister Oommen Chandy opined that bar license can be renewed with some alterations. The chief minister asked to give them a year’s time to raise the standard of bars. The bars can function during that period, directed the chief minister. Excise Minister K Babu accepted the directive.

A decision could not be taken at the coordination meet convened a second time.
