KANNUR: CPI (M) politburo member S Ramachandran Pillai Tuesday said the Congress and the BJP were equal enemies of the party and the question of supporting one for keeping other from power did not arise.
Addressing Janavidhi-2014, a face-to-face programme organized by Kannur Press Club ahead of the election, Pillai alleged that Congress party had failed to protect the secularism of the country. At the same time, they did not have the capacity to check the strength of BJP led communal forces, he added.
To a question on Defence Minister A K Antony's comments that left parties would support Congress after the election, Pillai said the left front had tasted a bad experience when it supported the UPA-I Government.
He said after 1996, only coalition governments came into power at Centre. So, the local parties had an important role in the election and CPI (M)-led third front's importance should also been seen, he added.
He said the number of seats won by Congress would shrink to the two digit mark while BJP was facing internal issues among leaders.
