NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court has rejected Santhosh Madhavan’s plea, seeking reduction of punishment in a case relating to molestation of a minor girl.
The court said even though the girl had made contradictory statements, in that particular case, no such things needed consideration. “In rape cases maximum punishment is awarded and hence the plea for leniency in punishment is irrelevant,” it observed.
In the case, Ernakulam Additional Sessions Court had awarded 8 years’ jail term to Santhosh Madhavan. The order was later upheld by the high court and it was against this that Santhosh Madhavan had approached the apex court.
