VENJARANMOODU: An 18-year-old youth who tried to molest a housewife and kill her by drowning her face in the river was arrested on Tuesday.
The arrested is Anwar Shah from Vamanapuram Kuttara Puthanvila house. After committing the crime, he had been secretly staying in the house of his relatives at Perumathura. He was nabbed at one o’ clock in the morning with the help of Cyber department.
He had three mobile phones and the one he usually used was switched off. The police were able to trace him after tracing the phone calls he made to his friends from the other two phones.
The incident happened on Monday at around seven in the morning at Kuttara kadavu of Vamanapuram river when the 18-yr-old youth and his friends pounced on the 40-yr-old woman who was passing by. When she tried to resist them, she was pushed into the river. They held her face under the water in a bid to kill her. Later they took her out and tried to rape her when she suddenly woke up from unconscious state.
She cried for help and in order to silence her, they hit her head with a rock. Meanwhile the local residents reached the spot, prompting the thugs to flee the scene.
The woman was soon shifted to medical college hospital
