THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Labour Minister T P Ramakrishnan has said in the Assembly that the government will take steps to ensure that nurses get at least minimum salary scale. The rights of nurses will be protected. It has also been decided to extend the term of the committee constituted to revise the salary of nurses in private hospitals.
“We have got recommendations that minimum salary of nurses working in hospitals with less than 50 beds, should be made Rs 20,000. All necessary changes will be made after discussing the above recommendations and taking into consideration the circumstances existing in hospitals. Nurses’ safety will be ensured and steps will be taken to change their living conditions. Currently, a nurse who has completed her BSC nursing is paid a minimum salary of Rs 11,747 and this is totally insufficient. Steps to increase this scale will be completed in a time-bound manner,” he said.
