BJP hartal gets underway in Thrissur

Saturday, February 25, 2012: The 12-hour hartal announced by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) as a protest against the lathi charge has begun here on Saturday.
Stones were pelted at KSRTC buses near Kodungallur during hartal. The protest strike staged by BJP activists against Mannuthy-Edappally NH toll collection turned violent on Friday.
A major scuffle broke out between police and activists. The scuffle broke out when BJP activists pelted stones at police. Following this, police resorted to lathicharge.
Almost 15 BJP activists including Mahila Morcha state president Shoba Surendran were injured in the clash. Tense situation is prevailing in the area.
