Victim’s wife moves High Court

KOCHI: Doramma, wife of Valentine alias Jalastine who was recently gunned down by Italian marines on board vessel Enrica Lexie, on Tuesday approached the Kerala High Court seeking Rs 1-crore compensation for the damage caused to the family.
Meanwhile, the ship owners filed a caveat apprehending that the deceased fishermen’s kin might file an admiralty suit and obtain an arrest order of the vessel.
Justice Harun-Ul-Rashid adjourned the hearing of the petition to Wednesday.
“Valentine died due to the negligence of the ship staff. They violated all international conventions. Therefore, the owners of vessel Enrica Lexie are liable to provide compensation,” she  said in the petition.
James Mckintosh & Co, agents of the ship, has also filed a caveat citing that the victims’ kin were not eligible for getting an order of arrest of the vessel.
