Five suspects in Chennai bank robbery shot dead


CHENNAI: Five persons were today shot dead in an encounter for their alleged involvement in a bank robbery case here, police said.


"Five persons were shot dead around 1 am in connection with the bank robbery case," Commissioner of Police J K Tripathy told reporters.


Acting on a tip-off, a police team surrounded a house in Vandikaran Street in Velachery around 1 am and asked the suspects to come out, another police officer said.


All the five suspects, estimated to be around 30-35 years old are all believed to be from Bihar. A West Bengal driving licence was recovered. The victims have been identified as Vinod Kumar, Chandri Khare, Vinay Prasad, Abhay Kumar, and Harish Kumar.


The accused opened fire at the police injuring two inspectors. The injured police inspectors were admitted to the Royapettah Government Hospital. The victims were taken to the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital for post-mortem.


Two daring daylight bank robberies were reported in Chennai this year.


On February 20, four armed men looted Rs 14 lakh from a branch of public sector Indian Overseas Bank at Keelkattalai on city outskirts.


In a similar incident on January 23, four armed men stormed the Bank of Baroda branch near Perungudi and escaped with Rs19 lakh.

God only knows whether they were REAL CULPRITS or something fabricated story makeover by the Chennai police.Crime records has shown more than 50,000 head top of chennai police last year without taking any action.I think its a fake image cover to make the cops feels better in public percepective !!!
