T’puram monorail: NATPAC to submit report today
Wednesday, Friday 29, 2012: The National Transportation Planning and Research Centre (NATPAC) will submit the first phase report of Thiruvananthapuram monorail project to the State Government today.
The Thiruvananthapuram Monorail is a rail-based mass rapid transit system proposed for the Thiruvananthapuram city. The Kerala Government entrusted National Transportation Planning and Research Centre (NATPAC) to conduct the feasibility study of the proposal to build a monorail system in Thiruvananthapuram. It is estimated that 40% of the present traffic can be taken off the road from the capital city once monorail comes.
The monorail corridor proposed is from Pallippuram to Neyyattinkara, a distance of 41.80 km. The project will be implemented in two phases with the first phase extending from Pallippuram to Thampanoor (22.20km) and the second phase from Thampanoor to Neyyattinkara (19.60km.
