Titanium scam: Court accepts plea against Chandy, Chennithala

Wednesday, February 29, 2012:The Thiruvananthapuram Vigilance Court has on Wednesday accepted a plea filed against Oommen Chandy and KPCC Chief Ramesh Chennithala in connection with the alleged corruption in sanctioning an anti-pollution project for Travancore Titanium Products Ltd.
The plea has been put up for further hearing on March 6. The vigilance court had on February 23 ordered the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (VACB) to file the inquiry report on the alleged irregularities in Travancore Titanium Products Ltd (TTP) within four months. Inquiry commissioner and special judge P K Haneefa directed the VACB to file the report before June 25.
The judge also directed the VACB to take the statement of TTP employee Jayan who was one of the petitioners. The petitioner had expressed concern over the progress of the inquiry and approached the court. Though the VACB had sought six months to complete the inquiry, the judge denied it.
