Fishermen’s killing: BJP activists lay siege to Kollam NH


Saturday, February 25, 2012: Hundreds of BJP activists today blocked the Kollam national highway as a protest against the incident in which two Indian fishermen were allegedly shot dead by Italian marines of ‘Enrica Lexie’ off Kerala coast on February 15.
The protestors stated that the stand taken by the State, Central governments was not at all satisfactory. Following the demonstration vehicular traffic through the NH was completely disrupted for several hours. The protest march was inaugurated by BJP state president V Muraleedharan.
Kerala Police continued interrogation of the two Italian marines- Latore Massimiliano and Salvatore Girone, whose remand period was extended for seven days.
The Italians have maintained that Jelastine and Ajeesh Binki, who had set out to sea along with nine other fishermen, were shot at on suspicion of being pirates.
