RPF initiates action against drunken passengers
Saturday, February 25, 2012: The Railway Protection Force (RPF) has initiated their drive against drunken travel on trains following complaints that they are harassing women commuters.
As part of the drive the Railway police are strictly monitoring the passengers and arrested three persons for drunken traveling here on Friday. The RPF officers are using breath analyzers to find out whether the commuters have consumed alcohol.
It is also alleged that the police are not using modern breath analyzers to track the drunken passengers. The increasing incidents of harassment of women and disturbances to other passengers by those who consume alcohol and enter the trains and railway premises had forced Railways to launch the drive.
As per Section 145 (A) of the Indian Railway Act, those found guilty will have to pay a fine of Rs.500 or undergo imprisonment up to six months.
