Congress reluctant to give Vadakara to SJ (D)

KOZHIKODE: The Congress high command will take a decision on allocation of Vadakara Lok Sabha seat, party-led UDF convener P P Thankanchhan said Saturday.

Talking to reporters after a meeting of the leaders of the Socialist Janata (Democratic), which demanded the seat, he said the issue was discussed amicably.

Since the Congress had certain reservation to part with the seat it was holding, it was decided to refer the issue to the party high command, he said.

SJD president M P Veerendra Kumar said the party had demanded either Vadakara or Wayanad seats as politically it had a right to claim one of the seats.

Stating the party agreed both these seats were held by the Congress, Veerendra Kumar said latter's position strengthened after the SJD's entry into the United Democratic Front.

Union Minister of State for Home Mullappally Ramachandran represents Vadakara in the Lok Sabha.
