BANGALORE: Mathew T Thomas MLA of Janata Dal (S) has been chosen as the candidate in the Kottayam Lok Sabha seat. The announcement of his candidature was made by party national chief H D Deve Gowda in Bangalore. Jose K Mani and advocate Nobel Mathew are the UDF and BJP candidates here.
Thomas agreed to contest following severe pressure from party national leadership. Till yesterday, the name of advocate George Thomas, party senior president, was heard. The name of Benny Kurien, state panel member, was also included in the panel prepared by the state panel. But the central leadership took a strong stand to field Mathew T Thomas. The leadership assessed that only Mathew T Thomas would be perfect as a challenger for Jose K Mani of the Kerala Congress.
