KOZHIKODE: The CPI (M) Sunday said a platform of secular and democratic forces will gain momentum after the forthcoming general elections in the country.
Speaking at a 'Dilli Chalo' programme organized by the Calicut Press Club here politburo member S Ramachandran Pillai said emerging political scenario hinted towards such a possibility.
He said the party adopted a three-pronged strategy to achieve this goal by ousting the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance government, keeping to the communal forces from reaching power and strengthening the left and the democratic forces.
Conditions of the common men, working class agricultural workers and peasants, among others, were worse since the introduction of reforms by the Congress in 1991, he said.
Their conditions further worsened as the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) that assumed office in 2008 and the UPA from 2004 continued the neo-liberal policies which were helpful to the rich and big business houses in the country, he said.
He said the UPA government alone gave whopping Rs 27 lakh crore-tax relaxation to corporate houses and big business establishments during their tenure.
Underlining the need for a change, he said without this the condition of the poor and marginalized sections of the people could not be improved.
