Stones thrown at IUML office in Panur

KANNUR: Panur and nearby areas became tense after stones were thrown at a local office of the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), a few houses, and on a place of worship late on March 9. Stones were thrown at the IUML office and three houses at Aniyarath near Panur on Sunday night. A car parked in the compound of a house was damaged. Water distribution pipeline to a nearby place of worship was destroyed. IUML leaders alleged that Bharatiya Janata Party and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh workers were behind the attack.

A large posse of police personnel was deployed in the area. District Congress Committee president K. Surendran said that the incidents could be part of a planned move to instigate communal tension in the district. After visiting the area on Monday, he said the attack on the place of worship, the IUML office, and houses of people with no political connection hinted at such a move.
