Congress not to part with Idukki seat; decision within two days

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Congress informed Kerala Congress on Tuesday that it was not ready to give up the Idukki Lok Sabha seat. It was Chief Minister Oommen Chandy who clarified the party stand at the UDF meeting. Chandy said Idukki seat is Congress sitting seat and there was practical difficulty in parting with the same.

The chief minister said many other UDF allies had come asking for the Idukki seat but the Congress party was able to convince them about the practical difficulty in the case.  “We hope Kerala Congress will also try to understand the situation,” said Chandy who added that a decision had been taken to convene a meeting between the Kerala Congress chairman and KPCC president.

UDF convenor P P Thankachan said a clear picture about the Idukki seat would emerge within two days after the meeting. If it is necessary, Oommen Chandy would also take part in the meeting.

Don’t need seat: Johny Nellore

Kerala Congress Jacob group has withdrawn its request for a seat. Party chairman Johny Nellore said his party could accommodate the concerns of the Congress and decided not to demand seat. Nellore added that the party would work single-mindedly for the victory of Congress and UDF candidates.
