KOCHI: Syro Malabar church major Archbishop Cardinal George Alancherry has said that the stand taken by the church during elections doesn’t depend on single issue. He was answering questions related to draft notification on Kasturirangan report.
Alancherry said he was not fully satisfied with the draft notification, which wouldn’t provide full protection to the people in the Western Ghats. All apprehensions would subside only when the final notification came out. He also justified the agitation by High Range Protection Council. “ The decision for the agitation was apt and it was their right, too. The council’s plans to field its own candidate for the Lok Sabha election was not wrong, though the church doesn’t say it was inevitable,” said Alancherry, who asked why the government delayed the issuance of draft notification till the election dates were declared.
