CPM trying to woo Berlin?

KOZHIKODE/KANNUR: Stage is set for the return of Berlin Kunjanandan Nair to the CPM, who had to leave the party as he could not get along with it ideologically. CPM has welcomed in good spirit Berlin’s recent harsh criticism against RMP, paving way for his likely return to the party fold.

The other day Berlin said that the RMP had become a B team of Congress and their only agenda was T P Chandrasekharan murder. “Rema’s indefinite strike in front of Secretariat, demanding a CBI inquiry into the murder, was a ploy carried out in connivance with the UDF. RMP has even fielded candidates just to help the UDF” Berlin said in his statement.

CPM Politburo member Kodiyeri Balakrishnan has welcomed Berlin’s statement. “Berlin has done many contributions to the party. But in the 2009 election he sided with UDF and now it is nice that he has come to realise his mistakes. The party will welcome all those who come back after quitting the party,” he said.

However, Berlin has his own reservations about returning to the party. “When those people who had sacked me call me back, I will have to think about it… I didn’t resign from the party or leave it. But due to my ideological differences with it, I was sacked,” he said adding that his attempts were now to ensure the victory of P K Sreemathi in Kannur as well as other LDF candidates.
