CMP splits, Aravindakshan group to cooperate with LDF

THRISSUR: The CMP has split and the group led by K R Aravindakshan will work in conjunction with the LDF. Leaders Aravindakshan and M K Kannan said in a press conference on Saturday that their move was in protest against UDF’s gross negligence towards them.

Aravindakshan revealed that CMP general secretary M V Raghavan had put forward the suggestion to part ways with the UDF and the later also assured the group of his support.

In Saturday’s 131-member committee meeting, 81 members were present. Seven had applied for leave, said Kannan. Meanwhile, each group claimed that out of the nine politburo members, seven were with it.

Kannan said his group were not given due respect of a constituent party by the UDF. Only C P John was given all the respect and Congress motive was to destroy CMP using C P John. “We will return all posts and accolades received from the UDF and hold unconditional discussions with the LDF,” said Kannan, adding that Thrissur convention would be held on March 30.  .

Today’s developments in the CMP also saw clashes between two groups within the party. Aravindakshan group occupied the Kannur CMP office and put up the board that read LDF election committee office. The office was inaugurated by CPM Kannur District  secretary P Jayarajan.

In the melee, PB member Ajeer was attacked. Following the clash, policemen were deployed at the spot.
