DYFI activists manhandle Abdullakutty

KANNUR: A P Abdullakutty MLA was on Wednesday manhandled by DYFI activists in front of a private hotel. Earlier, they had gheraoed him, asking him to resign in the wake of solar scam accused Saritha Nair’s complaint against him. They demanded his arrest as well.

The police later arrested the agitating DYFI activists and removed them from the scene. In the melee, Sunny Joseph MLA also got roughed up. Both had come to Kannur to attend a function.

Meanwhile, the police told the DYFI activists that since Saritha had filed the case in Thiruvananthapuram, it was not under their jurisdiction to take action on it.

Police later shifted Abdullakutty into the hotel.

In the meantime, the Youth Congress activists who were present at the spot clashed with DYFI activist and police had to wield lathis to control the mobs. Sunny Joseph alleged that it was a well-coordinated, calculated move. “If Jose Thettayil resigns, Abdullakutty will also resign,” he added.  

CPM leader P Jayarajan later in the day alleged that the police were trying to protect an accused in the rape case. K Sudharakaran MP also provided protection to Abdullakutty.

To this allegation, Sudhakaran said that action would be taken against Abdullakutty if he was found guilty.
