KOLLAM: A couple was killed when an over-speeded tempo traveller and a car collided on the national highway in Neendakara.
The dead has been identified as R Raveendran Nair (58) of Mudavanmukul, personal assistant of Home Minister Chennithala, and his wife Vijayamma (54), personal assistant of Minister Balakrishnan. Three persons travelling in two vehicles sustained injuries.
The incident happened last night at 11.30 pm. Car driver V K Krishna Kumar (55), tempo driver Vijayan (36) and a passenger (33) were the injured. Seriously injured Vijayan has been shifted to the medical college hospital in the capital city.
Police said the accident happened when the speeding lorry hit the car proceeding to the capital city from Alappuzha. The injured were extricated from the mangled car by police and fire force. The body of Nair has been shifted to the district hospital and that of Vijayamma at the Medicity Hospital.
The couple lost their lives when they were returning after inviting their relatives and friends for their daughter’s wedding. The wedding of their daughter Rajani is fixed for April 24.
