Demolition of Mazhavil Restaurant begins in Aluva

ALUVA: Authorities have started demolishing Mazhavil Restaurant constructed by the district tourism promotion council on the flood-line of the river Periyar at Aluva. The demolition procedures started following Supreme Court order.

The work is in progress as per the directive of district collector M G Rajamanickam and by a team led by ADM Ramachandran, public works department executive engineer Salomi and the police.

Each part of the building is being demolished by the JCB. The collector has instructed the PWD to submit a report today itself after demolishing the whole building. It is not sure whether the task can be completed today itself. The team came with a small JCB at 8 am but when a demand for a big one was raised, it was brought after an hour.

An official team including tahasildar Chandrasekharan Nair, Aluva West Village officer Joseph, PWD assistant engineer Benny, DySP V K Sanal Kumar and CI B Harikumar are camping in the area.

The building was constructed by an amount of Rs one crore in 2005 violating environmental rules
