Kanthapuram against Uniform Civil Code

KOZHIKODE: Kanthapuram A P Aboobacker Musliyar has come out against the Centre’s move to implement Uniform Civil Code. He said the Uniform Civil Code would destroy the peaceful atmosphere in the country.

“In the Independent India, for the past 70 years, people from all religions have been living together peacefully. That situation will change once the Civil Code comes into existence. There is a general anxiety about the rules that will become the uniform civil code. Will it be the rules of Hindus or Islam or Christians? People are doubtful about this. Therefore an individual rule will not be possible in India. The nation should continue to aspire for unity in diversity. Then only peace will persist. I hope that the Centre and the Prime Minister will not take any step that may hurt religious sentiments,” he said at a public function.
