Italian ship firing: Crew yet to surrender

Sunday, February 19, 2012: The crew members of Italian ship who allegedly killed two Indian fishermen have not yet surrendered yet. A team of diplomats from Italy will arrive in Delhi today for discussions with Indian authorities.
The authorities of the Italian oil tanker had on Saturday night agreed to hand over by Sunday morning two of the crew members.
Kochi Police Commissioner MR Ajith Kumar visited the ship late Saturday night and spoke to the Captain and crew of the ship for half an hour.
The late night developments came shortly after India did some tough talking on the need for the Italian ship authorities to cooperate with the probe into the killing of the fishermen.
Italian Foreign Minister Giulio Terzi yesterday called his Indian counterpart SM Krishna who told him that the captain of the Italian oil tanker must cooperate with Indian law enforcers.
The Italian vessel, currently berthed at Kochi, is owned by Dolphin Tankers and its counsel VJ Mathew Saturday held discussions with police. Mathew said discussions are going on at various levels in Italy and in Delhi.
