THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The CPM, which came under severe criticism for its alleged role in T P Chandrasekharan murder, took action against one of its leaders on Friday.
This is for the first time that the party has taken action against a CPM leader, ever since the sensational murder snowballed into a huge controversy.
As part of its action, the party made official declaration that it was expelling Kunnumkara Local Committee member and convict K C Ramachandran from the party. In its press release, it stated that the CPM-appointed commission had come to the conclusion that it was personal rivalry that led Ramachandran to commit the crime. It also added that State-district leadership did not have any role in the murder.
On the other hand, the commission has given clean chit to convicts P K Kunjanandan and Trouser Manoj. It concluded that Ramachandran had grudge against Chandrasekharan as the latter had hampered the contract works of the former.
Through the latest statements that squarely blame Ramachandran, the CPM has reiterated its early stand that the party has no role in the murder.
Kunjanandan is from Kannur district and Ramachandran is from Kozhikode district. This gives ample room to the CPM to content that personal rivalry existed between them. Meanwhile, for the CPM, exoneration of Kozhikode District secretariat member P Mohanan was a shot in the arm.
