Rs 5 lakhs to kin of fishermen dead in Kollam firing

KOLLAM: The state government announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakhs to the kin of the two fishermen who were killed after they were shot at from an Italian merchant vessel Enrica  Lexie off Alappuzha coast. The district collector had earlier sanctioned an amount of Rs 10,000 as emergency relief.


The incident happened at about 4.30 pm on Wednesday evening about 22 nautical miles off the coast.


The dead were identified as Jelestin (45) of Kollam and Pinku (22) of Tamil Nadu.
