SDPI secretariat march turns violent; 5 injured


Thursday, February 16, 2012: The protest march taken out by the Socialist Democratic Party of India (SDPI) to the secretariat turned violent on Thursday morning. The protest march was organized against the police move to register case against the SDPI activists who had shown black flags at Chief Minister Oommen Chandy.
Around 500 activists took part in the secretariat march. Soon after the protest march, the agitators tried to barge into the secretariat premise who were blockaded by the police.
This led to a scuffle between the police and the activists. The activists pelted stones at the police and soon the police resorted to lathicharge and used water canons to disperse the agitated mob.
Five persons including Cantonment Sub-Inspector were injured in the violence.
