Capital city turns into a battle field

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The capital city turned into a battlefield on Wednesday when SFI students engaged in pitched battles with the police against the government’s decision to grant academic autonomy to colleges in the state. The police used water cannons and grenades after stones were pelted at them.

The march which started in front of the University College at 11.30 am turned violent when it reached the Legislative Complex. The police stopped the march lifting the barricades in front of the Fine Arts College. Some students were injured in the scuffle.

The activists who dispersed after the march gathered near the University College again and hurled stones at the police. The students damaged the flex boards and posters of congress leaders installed on both sides of the road.
