Decks cleared for Karthikeyan’s appointment as KPCC president

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The discussion held by the Congress high command representatives and Congress leaders from Kerala has reached a conclusion to appoint Speaker G Karthikeyan as KPCC president.

To replace Ramesh Chennithala, other names in the list of probables were Senior Congress leader V M Sudheeran and Union minister Mullapally Ramachandran.

Meanwhile, T N Prathapan MLA had sent letters to Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi and Defence Minister A K Antony, recommending Sudheeran’s name for the post of  KPCC president. While Rahul’s preference was Sudheeran, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy was against that. Following this difference of opinion, it was decided to remove Karthikeyan from the Speaker’s post and give him the post of KPCC president. If Karthikeyan becomes the president, there is all probability that V D Satheesan will become the Speaker.
