KOTTAYAM: A section in the special crime branch views with suspicion solar scam accused Saritha S Nair’s stopover at Puthuppally recently. They suspect Saritha to have held case-related discussions with some important persons and their agents at that time.
A report on Saritha’s mysterious visit has been submitted to Intelligence department chief. The intelligence team has said in its report that there was no need for Saritha to have gone to Puthupally. The home minister who reached Kottayam on Sunday also sought explanations from top police officials in this regard.
Saritha’s Puthuppally visit happened when she was on her way to an Ernakulam court from Poojappura jail in Thiruvananthapuram. A four-member team including a woman CI and a woman SI was assigned to take Saritha to Ernakulam. Saritha reportedly reached Puthupally at around 2 pm and spent a long time speaking over mobile phone from a wayside hotel.
The police will have to check the call details and the government may also take action against the police officials for bending jail rules. Meanwhile, the police officials under fire have been trying to spread the story that Saritha had entered the hotel to take lunch she carried from the jail.
