THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: K Karunakaran had to resign as chief minister because of the ISRO case, Karunakaran’s son and Congress leader K Muraleedharan has said. Once the espionage case came to light many allies of the party started turning against Karunakaran.
Muraleedharan alleged that former prime minister P V Narasimha Rao had personal grudge against Karunakaran. When ISRO issue reared its head, Rao capitalised the situation to oust Karunakaran.
Chief minister Oommen Chandy, who was then the finance minister in the cabinet of Karunakaran, had recently said that Karunakaran’s resignation had no connection with ISRO case. Murali’s statement is in response to this.
