Govt cancels nod given for land reclamation

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:  The government Wednesday cancelled the order of the revenue department granting sanction to reclaim the wetland of 425 acres including Kadamakkudi and Methran Kayal. The cabinet which convened here today decided to revoke the sanction following widespread protests against the order. On March 1st, Revenue Principal Secretary Biswas Mehta released the order granting sanction to reclaim the land.

Revenue Minister Adoor Prakash requested to withdraw the sensational order at the cabinet convened here today. Following that, the chief minister directed to cancel the order.

The order released in a rush had directed to reclaim 378 acres of land to implement tourism projects for Rak Indo Developers Private Ltd and its 14 sister concerned firms at the lake premises.
