Vote sought in the name of religion won’t be encouraged: Fasal Gafoor

KOCHI: Muslim Education Society (MES) State President Fasal Gafoor has said those approaching the society for votes in the name of religion will not be given votes. “This is also applicable to those who approach from the Muslim Community. Votes will be given only after making an assessment of the candidate,” he said.

Gafoor was speaking at the valedictory function of secular protection month observed by MES state-wide. Gafoor opined that MES was against top religious leaders entering politics. There was also no need for politicians to interfere in religious affairs.

“Muslims need to give their opinion only about their religion and others will look after their religions. MES’ main aim will be to propagate secularism and it will oppose communalism and terrorism. If anyone, even if he is a Muslim, associates himself with terrorism or communalism, he will not be pardoned. Lighting lamps or taking part in Aranmula boat race feast is not any wrong. What we oppose is Sang Parivar’s high handedness,” he explained.
