Speaker rules against Opposition strikes

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Winding up debates over the past few days, the Assembly on Wednesday passed the motion of thanks on Governor’s address by 72 votes against 62. Kerala Congress (B) Ganesh Kumar was conspicuous by his absence in the Assembly.

Meanwhile, Speaker G Karthikeyan strongly criticised Opposition MLAs for holding a sit-in in front of the Assembly gate to protest against Gadgil/Kasturirangan reports. Through a ruling, he warned them against organising such agitations in the future.

“Such protests are not legal and the Assembly entrance comes under the jurisdiction of Speaker,” he added.
