THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Following the spread of foot and mouth disease, the government has decided to intensify inspection of cattle herds at check-posts.
As part of the new measures, veterinary doctors will be appointed at check posts to check bovines transported to Kerala from neighbouring states
Despite the spread of the disease, loads of slaughter animals were being brought here from Tamil Nadu. Even during the Christmas season there was no shortage of animals available for butchering and hence there was less demand for meat.
The government’s decision follows the fear factor that diseased bovines reaching here may even endanger the State’s milk industry.
