Subsidy for cooking gas 'vanishes into thin air'
PATHANAMTHITTA: Thousands of people in Pathanamthitta and Idukki districts have been running from pillar to post to get their subsidies for cooking gas credited in their bank accounts. They complained that even after linking Aadhar and Bank accounts, the subsidy amount didn’t figure in their accounts.
The scheme was started simultaneously in Pathanamthitta and Wayanad. The number of complainants in Wayanad is also swelling.
Interestingly, the oil companies as well as the banks have been trying to wash their hands of the problem faced by the people due to “improper planning and technical glitches”.
When Rs 1065 is paid for a cylinder, Rs 586 should be credited as subsidy in bank. When the price of a cylinder was hiked by Rs 230, Rs 808.73 should have been credited as subsidy. But the people said they had not been finding this subsidy in their accounts even though the system came into existence a few months ago.
