Charge sheet against six including Fr Edwin Figarez

KOCHI: The police filed a charge sheet against six persons including Fr Edwin Figarez for raping a minor girl at Puthenvelikkara. Fr Figarez is the first accused in the case. Vadakkekkara circle inspector Nishal Johnson’s report said the doctor of Puthenvelikkara taluk hospital, who examined the girl has also been made an accused as he failed to report the matter to the police. The charge sheet was filed at the special court to prevent atrocities and sexual violence against women and children, in Ernakulam.  The police registered a case against the priest on a complaint filed by the victim’s mother. The priest, who fled the place soon after the incident, surrendered later. His relatives who helped him to flee the country are the other accused in the case. The case is that he raped minor girls for nearly three months.
