Differently-abled person dies in road accident

PATHNAPURAM: A differently abled person who was traveling with his son in his new three-wheeler scooter died after it collided with a tipper lorry. The dead has been identified as Sherif (45), a resident of Vilakkudi Karyara Mannamkuzhy house. The death occurred at Medical College hospital today morning.

His son Siddique (19) was also seriously injured.

Sherif was one of the recipients of three wheeler scooter presented to differently abled persons, under the aegis of Pathanapuram Block Panchayat, on Friday. He was riding the scooter home at around 2 in the noon when the lorry that was coming from the opposite side at Panampatta Kurisummoodu junction collided with his vehicle.

The locals who crowded around him shifted both the accident victims to a private hospital at Kunnikodu and from there to Thiruvananthapuram Medical College. One of Sherif’s legs got severed in the accident and the locals managed to pack it with ice cubes procured from nearby shops and sent it to the hospital. But the doctors were not able to stitch together the severed parts.
Sherif was running a shop at Vilikkuda. He is survived by his wife Seenath and wards Siddique and Sanooja.
