Vakkachan Mattathil resigns from Kerala Congress

KOTTAYAM: Toeing the line of Kerala Congress (M) renegades Francis George and Antony Raju, a former MP and a few others have resigned from the party. Former MP and party State general secretary Vakkachan Mattathil and Steering Committee member Jose Kochupurakkal were the leaders who resigned today from the party. Both have decided to join the new party to be formed by Francis George and work for it. Besides the above, party Kottayam district secretary Resi Mankasseri resigned during the day.

A few leaders under the leadership of Youth Front in-charge and State General Secretary Advocate Michael James also announced their resignation.

State Secretaries from Kannur, Advocate A J Joseph and Mathew Kunnapally also resigned. Francis George who headed the developments that led to the division in Kerala Congress (M) expressed the hope in Kottayam that P J Jospeh would also join his group soon.

In the meeting of leaders to be held in Kochi on March 9, Francis George will be elected as the party chairman.
Vakkachan said he should have left the party earlier. Mani’s approach always had been to neglect Francis George. “Kerala Congress (J) group will be rejuvenated and we will move forward with its ideologies,” he added.
