ARANMULA: Opposition leader V S Achuthanadan has remarked that in order to facilitate their air travel, the affluent could buy anybody. The move to construct Aranmula airport proved that.
“It is encouraging to see people coming together to oppose the attempt to construct the airport. All should come out to support the agitation,” said Achuthanandan, who had come at the Satyagraha panthal, on Thursday, to the address the protest launched by Aranmula Vimanathavala Virudha Samithi.
The CPM leader said the sanction for the airport had been obtained by influencing the Central and State governments. It is our obligation to protect paddy fields and sources of drinking water. He said the agitation was for the people’s right to do farming, to get employment and lead a decent life.
Ever since the agitation began, it was for the first time that VS came to the panthal. Poetess and environmentalist Sugathakumari was also present.
