THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The 24-hour strike called by various employees’ unions of the Kerala State Transport Corporation (KSRTC) raising various demands is total in the state. As all organisations participated in the strike, very thin attendance was reported in its offices. Buses suspended services and no untoward incidents have been reported.
As private bus services were in full swing, the strike did not affect much. People in areas depending only on transport buses had a tough time. Jeep and tempo services came to the rescue of the people in many places.
Police are deployed in Thampanoor, West Fort and in all main stations. But they didn’t have much to do as none came forward to operate services.
The strike will continue till midnight. The suspension of long route services caused difficulty to the people. Much rush was not seen in trains.
The demands raised by the employees were protection of statutory pension, payment of pension arrears, withdrawal of anti-worker proposals in the revival package etc. The talks held between the employees and minister had failed.
