Shouldn’t govt be made a party in Lavalin case? asks HC

KOCHI: Kerala High Court has asked the CBI whether the govt should not be made a party in the SNC Lavalin case. New judge K Ramakrishnan posed this question while considering CBI’s revision petition against a former court order giving clean chit to CPM State Seretary Pinarayi Vijayan in the Lavalin case.

The director general of prosecution said in his reply to the court’s question that since the government had suffered  monetary loss in the case, it could also be made a party in that. Justice Ramakrishnan said if the government wanted to be a party, it could approach the court.

Justice Ramakrishnan came into picture only after Justice N K Balakrishnan recused from taking up the revision petition filed by the CBI.

As soon as the arguments began in the court on Tuesday, Ramakrishnan clarified that he was ready to consider the case. “Importance of a case or personal interest doesn’t matter while considering a case,” he said, adding that the case was being adjourned to Tuesday next as a week’s time was required to learn the case.
