NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court has issued an ultimatum to Kerala government to demolish the hotel built by District Tourist Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC) on Aluva Manalppuram, immediately. Not even single extra day would be allotted to demolish the building.
The court further said the government’s inaction would amount to contempt of court and if necessary it could seek the help of Central forces to execute the order.
An organisation called the Association of Environmental Protection had filed a petition stating that the hotel was constructed without conducting Environment Impact studies.
The three-storey hotel in the shape of rainbow, built on the banks of Periyar river in Aluva by DTPC, was inaugurated in 2009. Later it was rented out to some hoteliers. The foundation for the building was laid at the place where the banks had caved in, after the area was filled with red-colour sand.
