Buses collide in Kattakada; 30 injured

KATTAKADA: In a head-on collision of State transport buses, 30 persons including the drivers sustained serious injuries. Among them 23 persons have been admitted to the Thiruvananthapuram Medical College hospital and rest shifted to private hospitals.

Fire force personnel had a tough time, toiling for hours to take out the driver, who got entangled in the driver’s seat

One of the buses in the accident was the Kattakada depot bus which was carrying people to Thiruvananthapuram for Pongala. The other was Kattakada-bound Parassala depot bus from Thiruvananthapuram. The incident took place at 6:15 in the morning.

Driver Rajesh Chandran, 41, from Onamkode had got his leg stuck under the seat near the engine. The fire force personal in the absence of crane and other equipment took three hours to take him out. Parassala depot driver also sustained serious injuries and he was admitted to Medical college hospital
