Bar bribery case: Officials urged to bear legal expense

KOCHI: A petition has been filed in the high court, pleading that necessary steps be taken to make Vigilance officials bear the expense for calling Supreme Court advocates to conduct trials for the Vigilance department in the bar bribery case.
It was M L George who had filed the petition for Kochi-based Fiat Justitia.  Law department secretary had disagreed to clear the bill to the tune of Rs 7 lakh, which was the pay for the Supreme court advocate arguing the case. According to the accounts, the total legal expense came up to Rs 50 lakh. The petition pleaded that the court not allow the money to be taken from the public exchequer for the court expense.The petition will be considered the next day.
