Selection of Kochi Mayor a hurdle for District Congress

 
KOCHI: Though the district congress leadership had decided to share Kochi corporation mayor's tenure between two councillors, with KPCC president V M Sudheeran taking an adamant stand against the move, the selection of mayor has become a head-ache for the leadership.

Third time councillor Deleena Pinhero and new comer Shyny Mathew had found place in the final list of probables for Mayors' post. Both are from Latin Catholics community. The consensus was reached to select one of the above as mayor in the first half and make former public works standing committee chairperson Soumini Jain,  Mayor in the second half. Both are from A Group and it was part of the agenda to appease Latin Catholics community, taking into account the upcoming Assembly election.

Sudheeran had opposed the arrangement, holding that it was against the credentials earlier specified by the KPCC. But the district leadership hopes to convince him about the situation and elicit a positive nod from him.

Consensus has also been reached to make A Group leader T J Vinod Deputy Mayor. He is also from Latin Catholics community.
