KASARAGOD: A couple was killed and five members of their family, including two children, injured when their car hit a stationary gas tanker near the sales tax check-post at Manjeswaram on Sunday. The accident occurred around 5 pm as the car hit the tanker from the rear killing Umesh Mayya, 65, a resident of Heroor in Mangalpady village, and his wife Sharada, 60, on the spot, police said.
The injured were being treated at a hospital in Mangaluru. The condition of a child was stated to be critical. The car was proceeding from Mangaluru and Mayya, who was believed to be at the wheel, lost control of his vehicle and hit the tanker.
